Wheelers Race Results 13/12/08

15th December 2008

Kia ora everyone

The last Marsden Wheelers final race of the year was a sealed handicap.  All the long course and short course riders started together in one big mass start.  There were prizes for this race for the first riders on handicap.  Because of road works we deviated using Draffin Road before heading up Whatatiri Road.

U17 rider Trent put in a gutsy attack virtually from the gun but he got swallowed up on Draffin Road.  Most of the riders then stayed together until the acid came on the rolling hills of Whatatiri Road.  The short course riders only needed to do one lap (16km) and Brooke was first home followed by Trent and then Joshua.  Jonathan tried several times to get away from the small lead group of the two-lappers but found the windy flat course not to his liking.  The sprint at the finish was taken out by Craig closely followed by Andrew and Jonathan.

Juniors who put in good rides included:

· Trent for fearlessly putting the hammer down at the start

· Joshua who is only 9

· Tim who did much better than the previous Saturday

· Brooke for riding strongly and getting fastest time for the short course

Brooke won the sealed handicap prize for the short course and Tim won the prize for the long course.  See below for results.

Thanks for Kathy for time keeping and Gavin for marshalling – yeah for parents!

NEXT WEEK:

Start of summer junior coaching – all Marsden Wheelers are welcome to attend.  Coaching starts at 9am at Kara Hall on Saturday followed by a short competitive ride.

The first coaching session will involve looking at bike set-up.  The ride is a short time trial and we look at the position of each rider using a camera.  If there is time we will show a video of professional cyclists time trialing.

$2 for hall hire please.
